Welcome to Cinemateket i Bergen's web site.

We screen film, actually more than 200 titles a year! Go to our programme pages under PROGRAM to see which titles these are (unfortunately, we are unable to offer you articles and reviews of the films in English). We try to offer our audience a wide range of films, from 1895 to present date, from 15-hour dramas to one-minute shorts, films that never has been screened in Bergen (or Norway) before and classics that has to be seen again and again, director retrospectives and genre/theme/country presentations, turkeys and masterpieces, avant garde, art films and mainstream, the wellknown and the unknown, local film-makers and international stars, childrens' films and splatter comedies... You should be able to find something of interest here.

Cinemateket USF
Cinemateket USF is a 92-seat cinematheque that normally has screenings all year round Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays 19.00 and 21.00 hours. Cinemateket USF is situated at USF Verftet, Georgernes verft 12 at Nordnes in Bergen. Cinemateket USF is run by the foundation Stiftelsen Cinemateket i Bergen, established by Bergen filmklubb in 1992. Cinemateket USF is acting in formal cooperation with The Norwegian Film Institute (NFI).

About formats: Cinemateket USF can screen most film and video formats. For 35/70mm film, two fully functioning Philips DP70 projectors are used. All 35 and 70mm prints are screened with changeover, and are not spliced or cut in any way. We take care of the prints we screen. For 16mm screenings the theatre is equipped with an Eiki 9100 EX. Regarding film sound formats, Cinemateket USF is equipped with Dolby Stereo A/SR and mono, as well as four and six track magnetic sound.

Regarding digital film, we have a Sony SRX-R220 4k digital cinema projector installed, and we regularly arrange digital screenings of restored prints.

Language and subtitles
The films screened at Cinemateket USF are normally either of Scandinavian or English languages without subtitles, or original version with Scandinavian or English subtitles. English information about language and subtitles on specific films is available upon request. Send an email to sigurd@cinemateket-usf.no with "in english" in the subject, and you will be included in the mailing list where you will receive monthly updates on the language/subtitles situation.

Membership and tickets
Ordinary ticket prices NOK 40,-. COMPULSORY personal membership card for Bergen filmklubb and Cinemateket USF costs NOK 90,-. Note that this membership card is also valid for the screenings at other Norwegian film societies. Age limit 15 years at both Bergen filmklubb and Cinemateket USF. Tickets and membership cards are sold at the screenings and anyone above the age of 15 can be a member. Membership periods: SPRING: in sale 01/11-30/04, valid 01/11-30/06; AUTUMN: in sale 01/05-31/10, valid 01/05-31/12.

Programme catalogue
Cinemateket i Bergen publishes five programme catalogues and posters each year. These publications are free and available at the screening venue and other places around town.
